Spring 2026 Campaign
Rebuilding myself—One movement at a time
In March 2025, Soumya Tamouro’s life took an unexpected turn following a stroke that left her right side paralyzed. After a stay in the hospital, she began a rehabilitation journey at the Lucie-Bruneau Physical Rehabilitation Centre. For six months, she benefited from the support, guidance, and expertise of a team of dedicated professionals who stood by her throughout every stage of her recovery.
“Through my experience, I realized that the winning conditions for successful rehabilitation depend on several factors, including compassionate listening by health professionals and a patient’s commitment to becoming an active partner in their own care. I also understood that supporting the REA Foundation means a lot more than providing prostheses or technical aids. It means participating in the development of an innovative ecosystem where we push the limits of rehabilitation. Together, we can achieve excellence in our collective well-being.”
The REA Foundation is counting on your support more than ever during our spring campaign. With your help, you are contributing to our mission of improving physical rehabilitation care.
Recognizing the signs of stroke saves lives
The signs of a stroke can vary from one person to another. In women, they may present as classic symptoms (paralysis, speech difficulties), but also as more subtle or atypical symptoms, such as sudden fatigue, nausea, dizziness, confusion, or an unusual feeling of discomfort or malaise.
FAST:
- F: Face drooping
- A: Arm weakness
- S: Speech difficulty
- T: Time to call 911
A stroke only lasts a few minutes. Its consequences can last a lifetime.
After a stroke, rehabilitation makes it possible to regain autonomy, to relearn how to walk, talk, carry out daily activities, and support memory, which can sometimes be affected. It also provides physical and psychological support adapted to each person.
At the Institut de réadaptation Gingras-Lindsay-de-Montréal and the Centre de réadaptation Lucie-Bruneau, the facilities supported by the REA Foundation, every rehabilitation journey contributes to rebuilding confidence and quality of life.
Around 60 to 80% of stroke survivors require rehabilitation. Early rehabilitation improves the chances of recovery. (Source: Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada)
